The event was organised by Edumotiva at the premises of the Intercultural Secondary School A’ Athinas (Ipeirou 4, Athens) on May 11, 2019, targeting both secondary school students and teachers. In the context of the event both groups (students and teachers) were introduced in the ideas underpinning the Holomakers project (in an age appropriate manner) and were invited to take part in hologram making workshops. The team of 6EK Peiraia as well as WUT supported also this initiative. The agenda of the event is available here.

The event attracted the interest of 55 individuals (mainly teachers). The participants were mainly teachers at secondary and vocational school level. Among the participants were representatives of the municipality and educational administration offices that demonstrated interest in our initiative.

The event targeted both students (14-15 years) and teachers (from different subject areas and schools from Athens and nearby cities/regions). The event started with an interactive presentation (where students frequently asked to document loud their thoughts and ideas). The presentation aimed at supporting them build an understanding of the basic concepts that are used in hologram making and recent research practices and applications. This interactive presentation was followed by a practical workshop where the students were invited to work in groups and actively involved in physical hologram making with the Holokits.

Then the session with the teachers started with a presentation about the project objectives and the ideas underpinning the development of the Holokits. The challenges faced were mentioned together with our broader pedagogical aims and visions. Then the OERs developed in the context of the project were presented (O1, O2, O3, O4) together with the scheduled activities and the feedback that had been since then received by the pilot sites.

The presentation was followed by a demonstration on how the Holokits can be used to record holograms. After the demonstration the teachers were encouraged to form teams and to apply themselves the holographic approach using the Holokits. The Holomakers team was supporting the teachers throughout this process. When the practical part was over, the focus was placed on teachers’ experiences and their views of the pedagogical value of the Holomakers initiative. An interesting discussion took place as the participating teachers were very eager to learn more about our resources, future workshops and how their schools can be also involved in the project and get access to our tools. There was excitement and an understanding that the Holomakers approach can help students get closer to STEM related subject, STEM-disciplines and domains and understand how different subject areas can come together.
